Congleton, preparations for the new season started off with a defeat in a cup game at home to Ellsemere Port on Saturday 28 August 2010. The first half saw Ellsemere Port score two tries, leaving the half time score at 14-0. Ellesemere Port capitalized poor defending by Congleton. A galvanizing team talk by Skipper Carl May saw a much improved second half performance with Ellsemere Port adding one try to their tally. Again, the forwards showed great support play throughout the match. A lot of work needs to be done on the line out ball as Congleton gave away a lot of possession in their throw ins. Man of the match Greg Wood playing 8th man was outstanding in attack, causing problems to the Ellesmere Port pack. Next for Congleton is the first league game on Saturday 4th September away to Crewe and Nantwich who were relegated last season.
